Staff Accountant

Job Summary

Staff Accountant performs general bookkeeping functions and is responsible for processing commission, salary and hourly payrolls.  Payroll and commission processing requires calculating and dispersing commission dollars and expense reports, tracking attendance, vacation and leave time for all employees and calculating, reporting and filing payroll taxes.  Additional duties include paying employee benefits bills, balancing benefit and other general ledger accounts, posting department journal entries monthly, preparing monthly reports, and assistance with accounts receivable and accounts payable.  Other duties may be assigned by the Controller and HR Leader as necessary to manage work load and departmental responsibilities.

Essential Functions and Duties (including but not limited to)

  • Process semi-monthly payrolls, bonus payrolls and special payrolls
  • Process payroll ACH and funds transfer
  • Prepare and distribute wage statements
  • Process 941 tax deposits with each payroll
  • Complete quarterly payroll reports and make required GL entries
  • Process monthly and quarterly payroll taxes making appropriate deposit payments
  • Process garnishment disbursements
  • Process and post FUTA, SUTA and WC transactions at monthly, quarterly and annual intervals making appropriate GL entries
  • Process, post and balance associate attendance, vacation and leave time
  • Process monthly Buy/Resale Commission log and appropriate monthly GL entries
  • Process monthly Service Commission log and appropriate monthly GL entries
  • Process commission spreadsheets semi-monthly posting all commission types and expense reports
  • Reconcile commission payable accounts
  • Monitor and reconcile promo accounts, updating balances on commission spreadsheet semi-monthly
  • Pay monthly benefit premium invoices
  • Reconcile benefit accounts to premium invoices making appropriate department GL entries
  • Review daily activity in Operating bank account and clear transactions in Key2Act cash management system
  • Assist Controller in certain monthly journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Process 401K distributions after each payroll
  • Request and maintain customer and subcontractor Certificates of Insurance (COI’s)
  • Assist HR Leader with annual benefit deduction updates
  • Attend weekly department meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by Controller and HR Leader

Education

  • High School Diploma or Graduation Equivalency Diploma
  • College level accounting classes or equivalent work experience

Skills and Experience

  • Two years related experience and/or training
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software with emphasis on Excel
  • Experience with accounting software and database software
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
