Problem: AmerCable has a 45-year-old fire tube Cleaver-Brooks boiler.  The boiler had 18 cracked tubes with rapid detrition in the lower section, 9 previous plugged tubes that were failing and a damaged main gas burner.

Solution: Storer Services was able to diagnose their problem and quickly provide a reliable solution. We could not plug any additional tubes because it would have exceeded the allowable code limits of plugs for the boiler to work safely and properly or pass inspection.  We removed 98 old tubes, inspected critical clearances in the tube sheet and installed 98 new tubes.  From there, we steel welded all 98 tubes front and back and also rebuilt the main gas burner.  Once completed, we tested it with a hydro-boiler at 250psi for 10 minutes.  The boiler passed inspection and was closed in preparation for commissioning.  All safety checks were done and the boiler was pre-heated and brought back to working pressure.

Legacy: AmerCable is a current client with site specific needs for steam in their process and we routinely preform maintenance on their boilers.  They needed immediate and reliable assistance on their Cleaver-Brooks boiler.  Storer exceeded the client’s expectations on the quality of work and completed the job in under 3 weeks.
