Morris & Dickson

PROBLEM

Morris & Dickson was expanding its warehouse operations, requiring the addition of 11 new rooftop units and replacement of approximately half of its existing 50 units. At the same time, the facility needed to upgrade its outdated Johnson Controls system and implement NIST-traceable, validated temperature and humidity monitoring throughout the space.

The project required strict compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and cGMP standards, while also maintaining operations in an active warehouse environment. Integrating multiple systems, protocols, and equipment types into one cohesive platform presented a significant technical challenge.

SOLUTION

Storer Services designed and implemented a fully integrated controls and monitoring solution tailored to the facility’s needs. We partnered with Sonicu to deploy a wireless, NIST-traceable temperature and humidity monitoring system that communicates via cellular connection and integrates directly into the Niagara platform using Modbus TCP.

The project included integrating legacy Johnson Controls N2 systems, 34 new rooftop units via BACnet MSTP, Liebert computer room units, and low-temperature cooler units using BACnet/IP. In total, five different communication protocols were successfully unified into a single Niagara N4 interface.

The result was a user-friendly system with advanced capabilities including 3D graphics, real-time alarming, trending, and scheduling—all accessible through one centralized platform.

LEGACY

Following project completion, Morris & Dickson entered into a Connected Building Services and Preventative Maintenance agreement. This allows for continuous remote monitoring of all HVAC equipment and environmental sensors, enabling immediate response to any temperature or humidity deviations.

With advanced trend analysis tools like BLX Report Cards and Trend View, the facility can now track performance over time, predict potential failures, and maintain compliance with critical standards. The result is a highly reliable, efficient, and future-ready system that supports ongoing operations and regulatory requirements while minimizing risk and downtime.
