Solving Chronic Blockages/Clogs in a School Cafeteria
PROBLEM
A local high school cafeteria was experiencing persistent clogging and backups in floor sinks and drains tied to the grease waste system. With no routine maintenance since the school opened in 1967, grease, food waste, and debris had built up throughout the piping. Frequent blockages disrupted kitchen operations, increased service calls, and created an unsanitary work environment. Additionally, a lack of staff awareness around proper disposal practices contributed to ongoing issues.
SOLUTION
Our team performed a comprehensive camera inspection of all grease waste lines to identify problem areas and root causes. We then executed high-pressure jetting across all accessible horizontal piping to remove grease buildup and blockages. After cleaning, we re-camera the system to confirm full flow restoration.
To prevent future issues, we implemented a proactive approach: installing dome strainers on floor sinks, adding a drain maintenance solution to combat grease buildup, and setting the client up on a quarterly jetting and inspection program. We also worked directly with cafeteria staff and supervisors to provide education and clear signage on what should and should not be disposed of in the drains.
LEGACY
The project resulted in significantly improved flow throughout the grease waste system and eliminated recurring clogs. With cleaner lines, proper filtration, and staff education in place, the cafeteria now operates more efficiently with fewer disruptions. The ongoing maintenance plan ensures long-term system performance, reduced service costs, and a cleaner, more sanitary kitchen environment.
